Last week, I put together a holiday style segment for Breakfast Television. As always, I had a great time putting this segment together and I also had fun hanging out with Ryan Jespersen… he’s hilarious! The focus of this segment was hoilday style for the 50+ woman. I don’t know about you but I rarely see looks that speak to a 50+ audience that are also stylish, sophisticated, and age appropriate. Ladies, here are three looks just for you. Hope you enjoy! Here’s what I love about these looks: You’ll notice that the skirt length is either at or just above each model’s knee. This will ensure that whether you are standing or sitting at a holiday event, you’ll be comfortable and won’t be Mrs. Flashy McFlasherson at the party. If it’s chilly out, feel free to add nylons to this look. I’d suggest you stay away from thick heavy tights for these looks- it’ll weigh the look down. Each of these outfits are great in that it’ll transition well from the office to an after work or evening holiday business function. I’d say that the outfit on the right would be more appropriate for an evening function because of the rosegold skirt. I’ve added some festive elements with the sparkle and metallic detail in each outfit. Opt for only one piece to add “holiday” into your look – this will ensure that you don’t look like a Christmas tree. On the left, you’ll see that only the blouse has a festive element with all the sparkle. In the middle outfit, the cropped gold jacket (with the cool studded detailing along the collar) is the stand-out piece in this outfit. On the far right outfit, that rosegold sequins skirt, wiht a lace overlay, is clearly the “centerpiece” of this outfit. Each outfit includes a blazer or jacket. The reason for this is to give each model more coverage to the overall look – not everyone wants to show off their arms but that doesn’t mean you need to look dowdy and boring. Also, a structured blazer is a great way to highlight your shape. You’ll notice that the red blazer is lowered in the back and nips in at the model’s waist. I’ve picked shoes that are fun for the holidays and complement each outfit (without matching of course… that’s not stylish). On the right, I’ve chosen a deep eggplant pointed heel (helps to elongate the leg). In the middle, I’ve paired a more festive shoe with this deep magenta dress – this shoe would also look great with a dark jean and a white tee! On the right, the toe and heel are a metaliic gun metal which is a nice contrast to the grey material on the rest of the shoe. For accessories, my personal style preference is a couple of bold pieces. I don’t really like to go overboard with jewellry, particularly for these outfits since there is a lot of detail in the garments.
Holiday Style: No Clumsy Christmas Sweaters for you (Part 3)
Hi! I’ve shown you some awesome holiday/New Years looks for the ladies in Part 1 and Part 2 of this series. Here’s one for the gents. This looks is a great contrast to the first two looks in that I’ve kept the colour palette dark and very classic whereas their looks are light yet chic and edgy. This is a modern, dressy look for any holiday function that will allow you to look ultra polished and put-together. Urban Party Crasher #3: Kevin Here’s a breakdown: I love a three piece suit because it’s sophisticated, classy and, for the most part, not typical. You’ll definitely stand out this is off black, subtle pinstrip suit. You’ll notice that hte suit is quite fitted through the pant leg as well as through the body of the suit jacket. These details will make or break a fashion-forward suit. I’ve gone very classic with a white dress shirt. Feel free to add a pale colour or a subtle striped dress shirt. Once you have a suit that fits well with a modern cut, the rest is up to your preferences. The shirt is paired with a geometric pattern tie – mosty grey and white. This complements the ladies outfits without matching them. Gents, that’s something to think about for sure. You don’t want to match (she’s wearing a pink skirt and you’re wearing a pink tie… that’s not stylish) but you can certainly take nods from each other’s outfit. We’ve gone with a lace-up shoe that has a thin, streamlined sole. If you’re more adventurous, feel free to go for a shoe with more interesting details (buckles, fading in the material, etc). These are certainly some stylish, on-point holiday looks… great for holiday cocktail parties or New Year’s Eve events!
Holiday Style: No Clumsy Christmas Sweaters for you (Part 2)
In Part 1 of this holiday style series, we took at look at an unconventional holiday look… it is one of my all-time favourite holiday looks I’ve put together. Here, you’re going to see the opposite of the little black dress holiday look. Yes, this is the alternative to that black dress you’ve been wearing to your office holiday party year after year. For me, what takes this outfit to a completely different level is the crimped updo we’re featuring here (great work, House of Tin)! Urban Party Crasher #2: Cailin Let’s do a breakdown of this outfit so you can get a better idea of how to do this yourself. First, I picked a dress that is pretty covered-up yet really sexy and sophisicated. If you want to wear something that is a bit shorter, like this Robert Rodriguez white silk dress, go for it. Just make sure that you’re keeping things balanced by maintaining a higher neckline. This is how you ensure that your look is classy not trashy. Rather than look for a simple dress, this one has two dramatic details- the sequined shoulders and the assymetical collar overlay. Stunning, if you ask me. This dress speaks for itself but by adding a few bold accessories, you’re adding that layer of “she’s looks effortlessly stylish”! Not bad huh? I’ve kept the overall look in a lighter colour scheme with bold silver leaf earrings, nude pumps with a studded heel, abd a gold skinny belt. For a contrast in colour, I’ve added a black oval cocktail ring and a lace overaly clutch. What takes this look from “stylish” to “high fashion”, is the crimped updo and bold smoky eye. Love it!
