Holiday Style: No Clumsy Christmas Sweaters for you (Part 2)

In Part 1 of this holiday style series, we took at look at an unconventional holiday look… it is one of my all-time favourite holiday looks I’ve put together.

Here, you’re going to see the opposite of the little black dress holiday look.  Yes, this is the alternative to that black dress you’ve been wearing to your office holiday party year after year.  For me, what takes this outfit to a completely different level is the crimped updo we’re featuring here (great work, House of Tin)!

Let’s do a breakdown of this outfit so you can get a better idea of how to do this yourself.

  • First, I picked a dress that is pretty covered-up yet really sexy and sophisicated.  If you want to wear something that is a bit shorter, like this Robert Rodriguez white silk dress, go for it.  Just make sure that you’re keeping things balanced by maintaining a higher neckline.  This is how you ensure that your look is classy not trashy.  Rather than look for a simple dress, this one has two dramatic details- the sequined shoulders and the assymetical collar overlay.  Stunning, if you ask me.
  • This dress speaks for itself but by adding a few bold accessories, you’re adding that layer of “she’s looks effortlessly stylish”! Not bad huh?  I’ve kept the overall look in a lighter colour scheme with bold silver leaf earrings, nude pumps with a studded heel, abd a gold skinny belt.  For a contrast in colour, I’ve added a black oval cocktail ring and a lace overaly clutch.
  • What takes this look from “stylish”  to “high fashion”, is the crimped updo and bold smoky eye. Love it!
